Cambridge is full of hopelessness, despair, and a vision for the future. High levels of alcoholism, drug addiction, and prostitution exist. Through
We strive to do this through a systematic, intentional approach of empowering the local leadership to carry out their vision for the community and to spread this vision throughout the community as they encounter the living God and His life-changing power.
In particular, we are partnering with Grace Community Baptist Church (GCBC) under the leadership of Pastor Vuyo Mkonwana to join the community and to establish relationships that will allow us to carry out integrated community transformation. Currently, GCBC is running multiple ministries with the vision of transforming the community.

INTEGRATED COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION
When we enter a community, we seek to relate to and understand the community through the eyes of Jesus. This includes pre-training and ongoing on-field research.
EVALUATE and ENGAGE
We repeat a collaborative cycle that aims to work alongside others in the community to identify and assess both needs and resources. Alongside the community, we encourage initiatives guided by a strategy and help implement them.
As transformation takes hold in a community our role changes. We avoid creating unhealthy dependencies and focus on what Jesus is doing within the community. This typically leads to expansion as transformation impacts surrounding communities.

At ITeams, we love hearing stories that show hope igniting within the oppressed. Below, Ricardo Zapata (a leader with ITeams in Cambridge Township, South Africa) shares Vuyo’s story, which has set up much of our current work in the community. Cambridge is poised to see significant transformation in the years ahead, due largely to the journey our partner Vuyo has been on.
