Koukaki (Athens), Greece

Photo by Andrew Nicodem / ITeams
Koukaki is a community in the southeastern neighborhood of the city of Athens, Greece. There is a large sector of the community that is lost and hurting, many of whom need the basics such as food, showers and a friendly face who shows interest and compassion. We believe that the people we meet will be better able to reach their potential by seeing a glimpse of Jesus.

Community Updates

THIS COMMUNITY IS ONE OF OUR SPONSORED COMMUNITIES click to learn more

We work in communities throughout the world. Each community is unique and its resource needs vary. All our teams are committed to transformation. The community highlighted here is poised for growth. They're eager to connect with financial partners, organizational partners, and new strategic personnel. You can play a key role.

Community Overview

We focus on serving the many needs of our community. Whether it be a hot meal or drink, we provide a friendly environment for people to come and find friendship. We also distribute clothing and blankets and provide people a place to take a hot shower.

Twice each week we open our ministry center for a light snack and coffee. It is a place for people to meet others, play games, and hear about Jesus. People also have an opportunity to learn Greek and participate in Bible studies.

We also rent a center we call the “Sfina.” Once a week we invite the neighborhood kids to come and play games, use the internet and also hear the word of God. Once a week our church youth meet to study God’s word, play games and fellowship.

Hosting community service projects provides ways to clean the pedestrian streets, parks, and playgrounds, and pass out devotional calendars to shop owners.

Finally, we distribute a care package to 10 families in our community each month. The package contains food staples and hygiene supplies. We visit the families in their homes to distribute these packages which allows us to build relationships.

INTEGRATED COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION

ENTER

When we enter a community, we seek to relate to and understand the community through the eyes of Jesus. This includes pre-training and ongoing on-field research.

EVALUATE and ENGAGE

We repeat a collaborative cycle that aims to work alongside others in the community to identify and assess both needs and resources. Alongside the community, we encourage initiatives guided by a strategy and help implement them.

EXPAND

As transformation takes hold in a community our role changes. We avoid creating unhealthy dependencies and focus on what Jesus is doing within the community. This typically leads to expansion as transformation impacts surrounding communities.

Follow the action.
